Manchester City were formed in 1880 although their name was not changed to Manchester City until 1894. Although the original kit was scarlet and black, Manchester City's home colours are currently sky blue and white and they have have worn blue since at least 1892. Traditional away kit colours have been either maroon or red and black. In recent years however several different colours have been used. In 2004 the team played in a white shirt with purple shorts and white socks. In 2005 the away kit was all navy blue and in 2006 it was all black with grey trim. Although a third kit of yellow shirts with black shorts and socks was used when playing against teams wearing blue. The 2007/8 season has the addition of white pin stripes appearing on the home and away shirts, whilst the away kit is all purple.
